I wanted to let you know that one of my bills was just signed into law.
S3235 will help protect children throughout the state from the dangers of Delta-8 THC.
It’s often referred to as “gas station marijuana” and has the same psychoactive effects as cannabis. It frequently comes in packaging that resembles popular candies, making them appealing to young people. But despite the playful exterior, these products pose serious risks.
I learned about Delta-8 THC when I was contacted by a Washington Township man. His young son passed out in the woods after ingesting an entire bag of delta-8 gummy bears. He was found after an exhaustive 11-hour manhunt.
As soon as I heard this, I took action. Now, thanks to this new law, intoxicating hemp products like Delta-8 will be regulated, just like cannabis. Sellers must obtain licenses through the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, comply with strict testing, packaging and sales guidelines. Most importantly, these products can no longer be sold in convenience stores or to anyone under 21.
If you spot these products on store shelves, contact your local authorities. As always, if you have questions or would like to share your thoughts, you can reach my office at 856-232-6700.
