I recently introduced three pieces of legislation to strengthen protections for consumers and streamline local services:

Improving Local Inspections

Too many homeowners lose an entire day waiting for a local construction inspector who never arrives. Senate Bill 4128 addresses this frustration by requiring state and local inspectors to provide a specific 2.5-hour window when scheduling inspections. This legislation has already passed both the Senate and General Assembly and now awaits the governor’s signature to become law.

Helping Car Owners Get Fair Repairs

Accidents are stressful enough without the added burden of fighting your insurance company for a fair repair estimate. Senate Bill 4534 would ensure car owners can obtain an independent appraisal if they feel the insurer’s offer is too low. Insurance companies would then be required to take that independent estimate into serious consideration, helping prevent unfair lowball offers.

Clearer Restaurant Tipping Policies

Many of us have experienced the surprise of an unexpected mandatory tip added to the bill, sometimes leading to double-tipping. Senate Bill 4459 would require restaurants to disclose any mandatory tipping policies at the entrance, on the menu, on the bill itself, and their website.
